Tezos cryptocurrency will have Zcash privacy features

Tezos is preparing an Edo update. The implementation of the Sapling library from Zcash will allow hiding cryptocurrency transactions, follows from a joint statement by the developers of Nomadic Labs, Marigold, and Meta state.

“No other major smart contract platform supports this functionality today. Since Tezos is extensible, we can add these capabilities directly to the blockchain, ”the publication says.

Developers see the use of the library developed by the Electric Coin Company in smart contracts and applications that assume privacy.

Another significant component of Edo is the ticket system. It is "a convenient mechanism for smart contracts, granting permissions to other smart contracts, or issuing tokens." Tickets are designed to significantly optimize the work of third-party developers.

Edo also provides a so-called "fifth period" to make it easier to deploy future protocol updates. It currently takes about one block, or 60 seconds, to launch new versions of the system after voting is complete. This creates difficulties for validators (bakers), indexers, and other members of the Tezos ecosystem. To make the processes smoother, it is proposed to lengthen the update period.

“Under the new system, instead of four periods of eight cycles during voting, we are proposing five periods of five cycles,” Tezos explained.

The proposal also contains several minor bug fixes, performance and gas cost optimizations.

As a reminder, in November the Tezos protocol was updated under the name Delphi.
